Wills and Estate Planning including the drafting and preparation of wills and other documents such as financial and durable health care powers of attorney, advanced directives, and living wills, as well as handling probate of estates.

Basic Estate Planning involves having a Will, Living Will, Durable Health Care Power of Attorney, and Financial Power of Attorney.

A Will is more formally called a Last Will and Testament.  This document is how you as an individual determines what happens to the assets you accumulate over your lifetime. 

Other important planning documents include a Living Will and a Health Care Power of Attorney.  These documents inform loved ones and physicians of your wishes on how you want to be treated if there ever comes a time you can not relay them yourself.

Elder Law is going to be a very important area of the law in the coming years.  With the baby boom population entering their sixties they have several issues.  How to plan for their own retirement and aging and most may be taking care of or helping an elderly parent.  Allison can assist you in either of these situations.

Family Law including divorce, child custody, alimony and spousal maintenance, child support, protective orders and visitiation.  Allison will work with all parties to attempt to reach a resolution for everyone's best interest.

Domestic Partnerships are not yet recognized in the State of Georgia; however, gay and lesbian couples can use the existing laws to protect themselves and their families.  Since Georgia prohibits gay marriage and does not recognize marriages and civil unions from other states gay and lesbian couples need to take extra steps in ensuring that their wishes are granted.  Allison can help you give your domestic partners or close friends the authority to make decisions for you, including medical decisions, handling funeral arrangements in case of death. Without planning and initiative, the people closest to you may not be making the most important decisions to carry out your wishes.
